You know what sucks? Asthma
I recently found out that I have asthma after my two colds around December and January. Oh yeah, that never ending cough that I had every winter of my life, the occasional wheezing, the mysterious “feels like my brain and face aren’t getting oxygen even though there is no wheezing” that’s apparently asthma. And the non-wheezing attacks are supposedly the worst kind, great.
I feel helpless even though I have an inhaler now… I had a non-wheezing attack on the drive home from work, it felt awful. Took nearly two hours until I stopped feeling shaky and weak.
It’s interesting and scary to feel like air is coming in half way but no oxygen is reaching my body.

Asthma? Is the worst. I got it after contracting pneumonia during the summer (I has talent, indeed) and when I’m home, I have to take allergy pills or stay out of my parents house because between cats and cigarette smoke, my lungs have a downright rebellion. Advair much? Awesome.
I bond with you in asthmatic solidarity. *raises wheezer*

It is funny how you never pay attention to your breath until it just isn’t working right. Then it just swallows your entire mind!

My asthma is back since I moved to San Diego. Pollen I suspect. Makes you feel helpless, true. I hope you are feeling better. Inhalers are god sent.

this picture is really kind of beautiful - even know i know its referring to asthma.
and i can relate… i only have it slightly, but when it affects me, its really hard… i remember my first attack - i spent all night only half-breathing, finally got an inhaler and was astonished at how quickly it opened up my lungs! i have 2 kinds of medication but i’m lazy about taking them :(

I can definitely relate - one of my scariest memories is trying to go for a run in the spring and having the combination of allergies and asthma reduce me to a gasping wreck as I sucked in air and could tell that none of it was getting into my body… Luckily, my asthma seems to have improved with age (it was much worse when I was a child) but I make sure to always have an inhaler just in case!

ugh. i hate asthma. in fact i had to use my inhaler when i woke up this morning and i am still shaky from taking it. that’s what i hate, that taking the inhaler helps tons yet it makes you feel really shaky because of the steroids.

I am convinced that there is pretty much nothing worse than the lingering cough. I cant stand it. Sorry to hear of the asthma though…and I thought the pic was pretty!

I used to have asthma, and when I quit caffeine, it mostly went away. Powerful illustration! Hope you feel better soon.

Nice illo…I’ve had asthma for a long time but it was only officially diagnosed a couple of years ago…the really bad part when I was in the army and had to do the runs…I always made the time (barely) but they gave me a lot of crap…you figure they would’ve caught something like that…I’m usually okay except in extreme heat or cold with a lot of physical activity…so I try to avoid getting off the couch as much as possible.
